This is how you drop knowledge. Of both beats and animation. On TV. In Japan.
Via Pink Tentacle! Edo rocks!
To learn more about Hifana (and the Widen+Kennedy Tokyo Branch behind the visuals) check out my previous post.
The anime-based internet meme that is the “Hare Hare Yukai Dance” keeps on rolling now heading smack into an entirely different internet meme, the dancing prisoners of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Not content with their new found fame and internet stardom, the Prisoners have taken on the holy of holies amongst anime fans, [...]
This is flat-out awesome. All female brass band (for reals) Tokyo Brass Style.
Nearly jumps out of your speakers in awesomeness.
Thanks so much to Clarissa for the amazing video!
UPDATE: I’ve been informed by readers that this is not the Dragonball-Z theme but the Dragonball theme. I humbly apologize.
Porno Graffitti, unfortunately named after the album by Extreme, offers us up a nice slice of J-Pop complete with strange video featuring both video games and camera tricks.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the name of this band and this song, I cannot be held accountable for what will show up in my Google ads.
Porno [...]
This is my new favorite discovery. Today.
Hifana is a breakbeat duo straight outta Tokyo signed to a record label funded by ad company Widen+Kennedy. It’s an interesting thing, an ad company owning a record label. Actually, much much better than I ever thought.
Here’s their newest video. Enjoy.
Tonight I heard my first Ging Nang Boyz song. And you know what, they’re pretty awesome.
But even better, I saw my first Ging Nang Boyz video. And that was even better.
What’s so great about the video? Well, it all begins to happen around the 2:53 mark. I’ll let you find out for yourself.
This is how you rock the house. And then set it on fire. On TV. In Japan.
More info on Wikipedia.
Zuiikin English is back! And better than ever thanks to the man who started the whole thing over a year ago. Okay he didn’t really start it (after all this is a TV show from Japan) but he did upload the clips to Youtube.
P-Low, The Skillful Abbot has returned with no less than nine new [...]
Not exactly sure what this is or what’s going on but I know it’s awesome.
There’s three more chapters of this if you’re interested.
Chapter 2: Beat It + Abba & More
Chapter 3: The Monkees + The Beatles
Chapter 4: Tom Jones + The BeeGees
This is how you set the bar. For making a music video. And then you write the song. Because, you know, it’s backwards. On TV. In Japan.
Looking for a nice Japanese pop rock single for those endless summer nights?
Look no further! Japanese rock band The Pillows are here to provide the answer to all your endless summer needs with “Ladybird Girl”.
BONUS: The amazingly animated video for The Pillows “Wake Up Dodo”.
The boys from Rip Slyme are back with a new single and a new video for that single.
Single = B+. Pretty good. Video = A+ if it’s built with ironic intentions, C- if not.
More Rip Slyme stuff here if you’re interested. And I’m sure you are.
This is pretty mesmerizing. And might just be the greatest waste of total people-hours of all time.

While I’m not sure if this is a commercial for Perfume’s new album or if it’s simple a PSA about recycling, either way it’s awesome.
I’m pretty sure it was created for the Japan Ad Council as a message to the youth of Japan and if so, please consider this an absolute success.
Dancing garbage. [...]
While this may not be as amazingly bad/good as the Kitten version I blogged a while ago, this Otter version of Minna No Uta is still pretty good as far as fulfilling your sugar requirements for the rest of the week.
