Beastie Boys Cause Mahem Live on Japanese TV + Newer, Calmer Interview

The Beastie Boys have long been favorite artists of mine. I got into them early and have never really left (althought IMHO their last album was their worst).

Part of what makes them so awesome is that fact that they’re chameleons, changing their sound to reflect their current environments and mindsets.

Which is part of what makes these two clips so interesting as you can really see two completely different versions of the group here - in the 80s clip you see some pretty awful behavior (whether it’s all part of the act I’m not sure) and then almost respectful behavior probably ten years later in an interview where they talk about English slang.

It’s an interesting look at how the same people can come to the same foreign culture at different times in their lives and have completely different experiences. Something to think about for all those people who’ve only had limited experiences abroad.

From the 80s:

It´s funny. In the first video the Beasti-Boys were young and horny and trying to mess with the status quo (which is impossible on Japanese variety-shows as absolutely anything goes). In the second video the variety shows had progressed in their insanity but the Beastie-Boys are just these three, wise, old Brooklyn gents. What happens is that they get rolled over. This “actress” is obviously some type of character like those of Sacha Baron Cohen and she is messing with their heads. The Beastie Boys are old and experienced enough to be respectful of other people´s cultures. To bad that, respect was never the name of the game on Japanese TV (although real-life is a different thing entirely)

AdRock is so not feeling the crazy in that first clip, and watching him cringe makes that video hard to watch.

both videos were funny 2 watch. the 2nd video was funny. She was soo lost. bad way to say Engrish, moment. Beastie boys are great music artist. I think she would have a better chance, if she had worked on translating her questions before beastie boys arrived in time. beastie boys music is mixture of genres to achieve that kind of music status.
