Johnny Socko & His Flying Robot Episodes Available on Hulu - UPDATED For Non-Americans

This is how you make a private beta so awesomely worth it. By posting stuff that you’d never expect a giant conglomorate site to post. Like Johnny Socko. And his Flying Robot. That made news long ago. On TV. In Japan.

P.S. I’ll post some more of these here if you’re interested. Not everyone can get into Hulu yet.

UPDATE: I am sometimes not so smart. While Hulu surprised a lot of us here in the States with how good it ended up being, I forgot that internationally Hulu don’t work. Which is a real bummer for those TViJ readers outside the borders of the USA. Hopefully, sometime soon Hulu will find a way to make it work in all territories.

Thankfully, Youtube has a metric TON of Johnny Socko which you can find right here.

Hi, please don’t post videos that can’t been seen by everybody. Hula says i’m not in the “right” country

Ditto. Damn the regional drm type things…

Well, at least allow me to be the token grateful person. I’d heard these were available on Amazon Unbox, but this is much better. Awesome and thanks a million.

  4. Neko says:

    It’s a shame that we can’t view it… (UK)

Buckethead fans such as myself are screaming with joy.

It’s well known that Buckethead was a huge fan of the show. He has covered the theme song, used samples from the show and the “Giant Robot” has been shown on album covers.

    Thanks so much!

Sounds very enterntaining, sure would like to see it, unfortunately I’m in Japan. But maybe I can get a copy of the original in Tsutaya.

    As for this,
“Hopefully, sometime soon Hulu will find a way to make it work in all territories.”

the internets don’t work that way. The people at Hulu are deliberately blocking access based on IP addresses. People browsing with IPs registered to ISPs outside the US are blocked.

I’ve never quite understood the motivation for this practice, since if you REALLY want to see something that is being blocked in this manner, all you have to do is proxy your browsing session through a computer located in the country or region you require.

With firefox this is as simple as 1,2,3:
    http://technicalbliss.blogspot.com/2007/04/how-to-use-free-proxy-with-firefox.html

The programmers who set this up certainly appreciate how pointless and counterproductive this is, but the media execs probably think they are creating potential alternative revenue streams, and the lawyers probably think they are limiting their liability with respect to their region-restricted content distribution licenses.

All it really adds up to though, is an annoying experience for a large part of the viewing public.
