Japan Should Be Happy But The World Should Not - YouTube Japanese TV Content Definitely Lower

It certainly seems that the Copyright Police of the World (CPOTW) are winning. There is definitely less Japanese TV content on YouTube now than there was six months ago. Sigh.

Not to worry, I’ll still find the videos in other places (Daily Motion & Veoh come to mind) but it’s all rather sad if you ask me.

Here’s an amazing opportunity to take a very localized thing and turn it into a world wide phenomenon. Add subtitles to some of these shows and send them out across the internet and monetize them! Allow me to embed clips here that draw viewers back to your website or sell your DVDs or whatever.

There is such a HUGE interest in these shows that I can guarantee you that this strategy would be successful.

Alas, it will most likely never be so. Until then we’ll have to find ways around them, to sneak a peek at their content, to barely allow us to enjoy what they’ve spent so much time and money on producing.

Just because you don’t make it available, doesn’t mean it won’t be seen. It just makes us get sneakier when we want to see it.

I would rather pay 30 USD/month for 3 japanese channels than for 70 not so interesting cable channels.

Even if I have to watch them using my computer.

It’s sad, but almost every video on the main page here has been taken down by YouTube. It makes me wonder if somebody’s monitoring the site.

most japanese stuff is on http://www.nicovideo.jp/

its become more popular over in japan than youtube.

You know what’s even weirder? 99% of the stuff they take down isn’t available in some other form (DVD, VHS, PPV, etc). I kinda get the logic in US companies protecting products that would otherwise be purchased (TV episodes or film clips) but these clips simply cannot be bought or paid for! What’s the deal?

I agree with you ! When I discover cool stuff on the internet, I feel the urge to order a dvd. Like Vermillion Pleasure Night that I found somewhere on the net and am now the happy owner.

Removing the stuff from youtube is really stupid. Who wants to listen a 2-hour movie or 40 episodes of a teleserie in crappy quality and with lag ?

wouldn’t it better if they just leave it? at least more recognition for the show and maybe then people would be willing to fork out money to buy when it’s available on the market?
