Ghosts of Tokyo Tech Past - The Computer Chronicles Visits Japan For Expo ‘85

As with many nerds my age, The Computer Chronicles was one of my favorite show growing up. I learned many things and shared them with my nerdy friends. Fun was had.

However, I don’t remember the episode below and I’m probably better for it. I think I might’ve exploded. This is pure mid-80s robot bliss. Not even Beyond 2000 could take on the awesomeness contained in the thirty minutes below.

As for now, there’s a lot of retro thrills here: the premiere of the Jumbotron, the MagLev train, the communications devices. And of course, the predictions of robots taking over. Which as we know is still at least five years away.

In case you’re as big a fan of The Computer Chronicles as I am, you can watch the entire series at the Internet Archive. It’s kinda awesome that way.

Time will only tell. These fiber optics communications will be replaced by wireless ones in the future. Although as of the moment, wireless communications is slower than cables, engineers are always studying on ways to improve mankind’s communication connectivity.
