Japanese Scientists Create Perfect Mirror Within Life-Sized Metal Ball, Put TV Show Hosts Inside

This is how you create the ultimate sense of vertigo. With a head mounted cam. Inside a giant ball. That is also a giant mirror. With no edges. On TV. In Japan.

NOTE: I’m pretty sure explaining this whole thing requires some sort of rule involving optics. As the deepest I ever got into the very complicated world of optics was to pretend to understand the optic-related parts of Infinite Jest, I will take any help I can get here. Link us some help below you smart people!

yeah… its bad when i’m a big enough Arashi fangirl to see a little blurry blob of a face on the preview and go THATS JUN!!!11! lol, thanks for the clip.

  4. Doctor Allen says:

This is a recreation of the Edogawa Rampo short story, The Hell of Mirrors (1926), in which an independently wealthy amateur scientist builds a spherical mirror and puts himself inside, and then goes insane. The story ends with the narrator/detective character wondering what he saw. The story was also referenced in Rampo Noir (2005)–a pretty terrible movie apart from the scenes with Tadanobu Asano as Detective Akechi. It’s just damn crazy to see this on Japanese TV.
