Late Night TViJ: Video Of “The Adult Treasure Show” A Japanese Sex Toy Convention
First a word of warning: There will be discussions of sex toys in this post and in the video below.
A second word of warning: I was sent a link to this video from kanojotoys.com (the guys/girls who shot it). I don’t know them but they look like a blog that’s specialized in Japanese sex toys. So if that’s your thing, I’m sure they’d have what you’re looking for. However, it (actually both the video & the website) contain quite a bit of objectionable material. It should probably not be viewed by young-uns.
To me, this little video isn’t really an in-depth of a look at the Japanese sex toy industry but more of another chance to examine some of the differences between Western & Japanese culture. Here’s the video. Some of my thoughts are below:
One thing I noticed right away is the clean cut appeal of all the Japanese female models/actresses/porn stars. It’s staggering compared to their American counterparts.
The overwhelming feeling at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas (I visited a couple years ago to cover it for my TV show) is over-the-top gross. Lots of fake boobs, lots of in-your-face adult dvds in the monitors, lots and lots of pretty scummy people (with, of course, a few nice ones).
Here, it is so much more sedated, almost calming. Yes, you do hear the moments of excitement in the background where I imagine what must be Adult Otaku (or is there another word for porn obesssed Japanese dudes?) cheering for their latest star. However, what’s more interesting is the moment where a man is calmly video taping a model at a booth, obviously eager to capture this moment on camera but doing so quietly and missing his time to interact with his fantasy come to life.
Also, taken from a distance, the glossy machines pumping away actually have an artistic merit of their own. I’d pay to see some installation artist put like five hundred of them on a wall, all going at once.
I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this. I’m not really a purveyor of adult material but I’ve got to imagine that there’s some real differences in the content as well?

There IS a big difference. Mostly in that there’s more variety in the Japanese stuff–both creepier and more fun. I can’t stand American porn anymore, for the most part. Try BT’ing “Lesbian Trip with Deep Kiss” for a fun example of the difference.
