Issue With Categories - UPDATED - Problem Solved!

Hey Guys,

Looks like there was one problem with my upgrade. I kinda nuked the ability to add categories to my posts. You can see the error message on the page to the bottom right under my last category.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

UPDATE!!! Thanks to my awesome readers in the comments (details below if you’re interested), problem solved. Looking forward to a lot of fast moving posting from here on out. In know it may sound petty, but I think part of the reason I’ve been posting less lately is due to my personal frustration with how long it took to post. Hopefully, that’s now a none deail.

Not sure what you did, but the issue is that the SQL you are running is trying to filter on a field (link_count) that is not in the table (wp_categories).

Did you add any new plug-ins or make any database changes recently?

Would’ve helped if I read the previous post. orz

Did any database upgrade scripts (*.sql) come with the WP upgrade? You may not have applied the necessary database patches yet, or they might not have run successfully.

Maybe here? Looks like somebody just posted their fix to a similar problem a few hours ago. Sounds like it could be a problem with permissions to ALTER tables in the mysql database when you run upgrade.php.

Here’s a page with instructions:

Reading other pages found by googling the error message suggests disabling all plugins during upgrade and removing their tables. Another page says this:

“I solved it, doing something else… I just edited the /wp-admin/upgrade-functions.php and in the line 134 where it says

// We are up-to-date. Nothing to do.
if ( $wp_db_version == $wp_current_db_version )
return;

I deleted those lines, upload again that file and did the /wp-admin/upgrade.php again and that solved those issues. After I fixed it, I just restored the lines.”

Scott wins the prize as the post he sent me to was the exact problem that I was having. It could be that this issue has to do with Yahoo hosted blogs?

Either way, I ended up having to go into the MySQL database and add a couple tables that for some reason didn’t get added in the upgrade.

All is good.

Thanks again to everyone who helped!

Just discovered a complete list of all marked down products at Amazon, sorted by category
and % off, ranging from 50% off to 90% off (thanks Sonja for the effort).

Actually I never thought Amazon would have articles with 90% off, but only in the category
Electronics there are more than 3000 of them - look for yourself, the list is on
Bargain Hunter (which is a blog of a woman who specializes in finding good deals at
Amazon, like Britain’s “Jeanie”).
