The Real Enka No Joou

First of all, those who actually saw my pitiful double post… good for you I suppose. I’m soon moving my entire life to a different country and it’s proving complicated. Mistakes happen to everyone now and then. Also, Japanese tax forms are possibly worse than American ones.

To cheer myself up I thought I would listen to some enka, in specific a little bit of Misora Hibari

You’ll never see another woman her age rock a kimono like this:

Which in turn reminded me of the drama Enka no Joou itself, starring Amami Yuki, an actress probably best known for her work in the Takarazuka. Sadly, all I could find of it was the ending song clip done by Hirai Ken.

If you like dramedy, Amami Yuki, or enka I suggest you give it a try. Be warned, however, its vein of comedy runs more along the lines of “look at how many terrible things can happen to a good person.” Somehow, it still works. On TV. In Japan.
