TV. . . in Japan?!
Now, Korean dramas are decently popular in Japan. Yes. This is true. I’ve seen them on TV before, usually subtitled, and I will admit that I’ve had some pretty uninteresting conversations with people about Yon-sama (Bae Yong Joon).
I can thank the 2002 Korean drama Winter Sonata for that.
This drama, (which is almost twice the average Japanese drama episode count) features the angst filled and drawn out romance between Jung Yujin and Kim Sang Hyuk, as well as complicated interference from Lee Min Hyung. That is the most spoiler free and concise way I could think of to summarize what is effectively 20 episodes of crazy plot twists and some of the most shameless emotional manipulations I have seen in drama.
