I like that white makeup effect they’ve got there.

I believe this is supposed to be at Osore-zan, a volcano where the spirits of children who die young are trapped and must build piles of stones to get reach the world beyond (which are often knocked over each night by demonic spirits). It is a pretty eerie place, with sulphur vents and pools, shrines to lost children, and piles of stones that the visitors help build for the kids.
