Death Note: The Movie Trailer With Subs

This looks pretty good if slightly implausible. Of course, after Narfs anything is plausible.

The manga this movie is based on is incredibly good. It’s very compelling in a Hitchcockian way. The tension and game of cat-and-mouse continually ramp up, and just when you think they go any further, they turn a corner and completely suprise you.

That creepy CGI character at the end? That’s the Death God mentioned in the beginning. Basically a genius straight A student finds the notebook and decides to become judge, jury and executioner for a corrupt world. He becomes the rage of the Internet and public opinion, being dubbed ‘kira’ (for KILLER, japanified). As he begins mass murdering convicted criminals and people who’ve escaped justice alike, the police seek to track him down..until he crosses the line and starts killing any cops who get to close. Enter ‘L’, the boy genius from Interpol sent to hunt him down on a collision course as they match wits, head to head.

Oh, and to rack it up another notch? The head of the police task force is Kira’s father. Hilarity ensues. Some of the most intelligently written manga I’ve read…think Holmes and Moriarity going head to head, and you’ve got a good idea. I hope the movies (of which this is the first) are up to the quality of the manga.

I can’t agree more, WizarDru. I have read a few of the manga, (6 of 11 are now out in English) and it is one of the most original stories I have read. It’s interesting how the story is split into two movies, too (I haven’t read enough to know where the break would be), but what starts very small turns epic quickly….but still stays local at the same time. Kira…a take on Killer, also means “Light” which is the young genius’ actual first name. Really, REALLY worth checking out….and I don’t rave about anything.

[...] Today, while I was browsing yet again, I stumbled on a post in the tvinjapan site. It is a youtube version of the trailer with subs :p So now for all you people who don’t know Death Note .; check it out!! The trailer doesn’t show a lot .. the basic plot and some realy cheesy computer effects at the end. But I promise you that if it’s anything like the manga you will love it! [...]

This is my favorite manga series, and i cant belive that they finally are making a movie about this. And not just an animated movie, but one with real actors. i wonder if it will cover the entire series, from the note book, to the point where Misa and Raito give up the books.

Couldn’t you just have easily referred to chapters, you have practically given it all away on this link for people who would rather read about it via the manga, not some over elated fans.
Think next time fellas.

I love the manga, and I really want the movie, but I can’t find one with subtitles, is there one or do I need to learn Japanese?

Saw the debu note, then this, convinced to get it out of nowhere though not a real Japan guy; thanks to these comments it didn’t get lost in translation. Thought it was excellent; will order the accompanying sequel, already out. Dude! It’s nice and long, too. In fact, only bad part is the pacing, and even that is fine for Japanese film.

Saw the movie and LOVED it. Granted, I haven’t read a volume of death note yet, I’ve researched a little, and watched a few of the anime. The movie was great in my opinion. It kept me wanting to know more, and I was so into the story. The cg was a bit sketchy in the beginning, but by the end it was pretty freakin rad. Oh, and L is one wierd kid. ^_^
