More Awesome Downtown: English Teacher in Drag Attacks Student

This is Sharon Stone. Except she’s a man. And an English teacher. On TV. In Japan.

WARNING: Fake plastic breasts worn by a man are exposed in this video. Please apply your fake plastic breast goggles before viewing.

You are a genius! you found one of my classic favorites! I used to show this one to my non-Japanese speaking friends to show how crazy TV in Japan really is.

If I remember correctly, they bleeped the broadcast when he says “Tomato” because he says it like “Toe-MAN-ko” (or “-toe”). “MANKO” is the word for female genetalia, and can’t be said on TV. In reality it sounds like he is saying “Toe-MAN-toe” but I think it was bleeped.

One of my favorite things about this clip is the “students” in the background laughing when he rips his top off…that’s how it always is on this show, and it may be a faux-paus on American TV, it’s OK in Japan. It feels less planned out like a SNL skit, and more free-form.

His pronunciation of “dynamite” is great, too. “Dai-NAI!”

In reality Matsumoto (who plays “Ms. Erotica”, the teacher), has a real fear of English, and avoids it like the plague.
